2) Defragment
The next tip to fix a slow Windows 7 is Defragmenting. This will help your hard drive run much more efficiently. If you haven't defragmented in awhile, we would recommend running the windows defrag multiple times. 3) Disable the Aero Theme on Windows 7
Right Click on your Desktop and select "Personalize". Click the Window Color Tab.
Uncheck the Box that says "Enable Transparency" and then click on "Open classic appearance properties for more color options".
Next, a window will open up. Apply either the Standard or Basic theme from it. We would recommend the Standard Windows 7 theme.
The Aero user interface definately makes Windows 7 look better. However, it can really slow Windows 7 down. The Aero user interface really taxes your graphics card and your CPU. If you need the extra speed boost, then it is not a bad idea to disable it.
4) Free Up Disk Space

5) Disable Windows Indexing Service

6) Disable Visual Effects in Windows 7
The Windows 7 visual effects are definately flashy and add to the experience. However, if you need the speed boost, disabling some unneeded visual effects can be helpful.
First, right click on "Computer" and then select "Properties".
Click on "Advanced System Settings".
A new pane will open. Select the "Advanced" tab on it. Next, Under "Performance", click on "Settings". Choose "Custom:" Options from it.
Next, uncheck all of the options and select only the last four options.
Save the preferences and then restart your computer. You can turn these effects back on if you do not like Windows 7 with them turned off.
7) Enable Windows 7 ReadyBoost
ReadyBoost is a Windows 7 feature that uses a compatible USB flash device to enhance performance. ReadyBoost caches disk reads on the fly and can often speed up data access. Reads from a USB drive or other ReadyBoost device are much faster than random reads from a the hard drive.
